Mailers To BOG: No Extra Rate Hikes
Posted on October 30, 2019 by mailomg in memo 436, Uncategorized // 0 Comments
A consortium of 17 mailing associations sent a letter to the Postal Service Board of Governors urging the board not to impose extra rate hikes when solving USPS problems. The group asked for a meeting with governors to review rate hike issues.
“We write to you because our members are deeply concerned that undue reliance on raising prices to stabilize the Postal Service for the future would ultimately doom this important industry and undermine any comprehensive plan to address the Postal Service’s difficulties,” the letter states.
“Frankly, those advocating higher prices vastly underestimate the significant volume loss that unprecedented rate increases would produce. The catalog industry has never completely recovered from an outsized price increase in 2007 that initiated an accelerated volume decline that has now exceeded 40%.”
