Industry Group Says USPS Failed To Meet Service Standards In 2024
WASHINGTON, DC — The Association for Postal Commerce blasted the USPS and PRC for deteriorating First-Class Mail service, in a filing with the Postal Regulatory Commission.
“In the 2024 fiscal year, the Postal Service failed its fundamental mission—to “provide prompt, reliable, and efficient services to patrons in all areas”—failing to meet any of its service performance targets for First-Class Mail. In many cases, actual performance was far below targets even though the Postal Service relaxed service standards two years ago,” Postcom writes in a filing with the Postal Regulatory Commission.
Postcom heaps blame on the PRC as well for allowing the situation to manifest.
“Considering the magnitude of the Postal Service’s financial losses, the last year was arguably the worst in the history of the agency. By refusing to use the full scope of its regulatory authority to hold the Postal Service accountable, the Commission shares responsibility for the woeful performance that captive users of the postal monopoly currently endure. That inexplicably passive approach must end if customers are ever to receive the level of service for which they are forced to pay increasingly exorbitant rates,” Postcom wrote … (click to read more)
