2020 Postage Rate Hikes Taking Shape

Mailers will face new rate hikes in January 2020 with a PRC filing in October, according to Steve Phelps, Vice President, Pricing & Costing (Acting) who made a presentation on rates August 1.

Key to what the rate hike will be is the August Consumer Price Index (CPI), which will be known in mid-September.

At this point the forecast is 1.9%, which would be the maximum rate hike permitted under law.

Once the August CPI numbers are confirmed, the BOG will approve rate hikes in September and file them with the Postal Regulatory Commission in October. Once approved, new rates will take effect in January.
