Update – Delays — Central Processing Region – Indianapolis (RPDC)

As noted in the September 21, 2026, Industry Alert for delays in the Indianapolis, IN Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC), several changes were implemented in September and October 2026 including adjusted operational flows and new large-package sorting machine installations.
The U.S. Postal Service recognizes customers may have experienced delays during these changes. To help reduce impacts in the region, adjustments are being made ahead of the holiday season:

  • Temporarily re-opening the Indianapolis, IN Mail Processing Annex (MPA) to support peak volumes
  • Reducing machinable volume workloads through adjusted routings, container makeup changes, and the utilization of nearby facilities
  • Reducing non-machinable volumes by leveraging other facilities in the region
  • Onboarding more than 200 newly hired employees, with more than 100 onboarding this week
With these mitigations in place, the Indianapolis IN RPDC is expected to, with more people, handle fewer trailers, fewer machinable parcels and fewer large parcels during this peak season than they are currently processing.
