MAILCOM’ers Find Their Superpower in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — The 43rd Annual MAILCOM was one of the best, featuring over 60 insightful keynotes and sessions on all things mail, document and distribution.

Finding Your Superpower — a keynote presentation featuring Shoshana Grove, Amber McReynolds, and Judy de Torok — showed attendees how to persevere through challenges and be ready to take action when called upon.

All three executives did just that in their careers. Amber McReynolds is Chairwoman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors; Shoshana Grove is President, International Bridge; and Judy deTorok is Corporate Vice President for the U.S. Postal Service.

The trio wowed attendees with their insights – simple, yet powerful tips to make a difference in your career and organization.

“I truly enjoyed my attendance at MAILCOM and learned a lot of takeaways from the workshop, keynote speakers and other attendees,” said Susan Fennell, CES, Logistics Operations Supervisor, Michigan State University. “Thank you so much for putting together a great conference.”

“Enjoyed all the speakers and the ability to speak with them and ask questions,” added David Orosco, University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Superpower keynote kicked off the first full-day of MAILCOM and was followed by a presentation on the 250th anniversary of the Post Office by Francis Ruggiero, Chief Editor, MAIL Magazine.

Lance Humphries, MAILCOM Managing Director, speaks with Judy de Torok following the presentation. Pictured above is Shoshana Grove and industry veteran Darlene Handy. In the middle, Amber McReynolds discusses mail with fellow Colorodan Jim Patterson from the State of Colorado and Christine Sehar from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Revenue.

Mike Erickson, President of AFMS, followed with a riveting look at the duopoly of FedEx and UPS and the myriad ways the shipping giants jack up shipping rates, and what you can do to counteract it.

The luncheon presentation was just as riveting — Marie Clark, President of the Envelope Manufacturer’s Association, took attendees behind the scenes in Washington, DC and the great changes facing the mailing industry.

Wednesday keynotes included an eye-opening look at the Delivering For America plan by Tom Day of the Postal Regulatory Commission. Day has been mentioned as a possible candidate for Postmaster General.

Haroon Abbu, Senior Vice President of Digital Technology at Bell Howell, gave an insightful presentation on the ways businesses are using technology to create positive customer experiences.

The culmination of the MAILCOM keynotes was the presentation by Gary Barksdale, Chief Postal Inspector, U.S. Postal Inspection Service. He showed attendees some of the biggest criminal challenges facing the mails and what mailers can do to support safe mail streams.

“I enjoyed the keynote speakers and the number of different topics that were covered. Great information from people who really know the topics,” said Mark J. Rheaume, Ricoh Digital Services. “The vendors were active and engaging. The schedule and food selections were well done. Good job to you and everyone who played a part in making this a great success.”
