President Trump’s Hiring Freeze Does Not Apply To USPS

President Donald Trump issued an executive order freezing the hiring of new federal workers (click here for copy). That order was further detailed by the President’s Chief Of Staff (click here for copy).

The question in postal circles is, “Does this order apply to the U.S. Postal Service?”

The National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS) asked this question to postal headquarters and received the following response:

“The Postal Service provides an essential service to the people and businesses of the United States, and is a critical part of our nation’s infrastructure. In view of our independent status, past Executive Orders imposing hiring freezes on Executive Departments and Agencies have not applied to the Postal Service. We have reached out to the Administration to discuss this matter.” (click for NAPS report).
