Supreme Court Rejects Mail Ballot Restrictions

From New York Post: The Supreme Court barred the Postal Service from implementing new restrictions on mail-in voting. In an apparent 7-2 ruling, a majority of the justices rejected the Trump administration’s emergency appeal seeking to throw out a lower court order that blocked the new restrictions from being implemented before the critical November contests.

The decision will allow states to continue sending out mail ballots, which typically account for nearly a third of votes cast, under the same processes they’ve used in previous elections.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh sided with the majority, arguing that while there is a “fair prospect that the final rule falls within” the Postal Service’s authority, “applying the rule in the 2026 elections would be arbitrary and capricious in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act because state and local election officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections … (click to read more)
