Hot Inflation Means Postage Rates Have Room To Grow

Weary mailers who have seen postage rates soar at an unprecedented pace will find no relief in the latest inflation numbers. Postal costs are directly impacted when inflation goes up as labor, fuel, and utilities rise. The higher rates which will take place July 14 are directly correlated to the rampant inflation in 2023.
According to CNBC, the consumer price index accelerated at a faster-than-expected pace in March 2024, pushing inflation higher. “The CPI, a broad measure of goods and services costs across the economy, rose 0.4% for the month, putting the 12-month inflation rate at 3.5%, or 0.3 percentage point higher than in February, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.
