2019 Paper Industry Report: The Good, Bad & Ugly

The February 2019 MTAC meeting featured a presentation on the Paper Industry with John Jankowski, Director Corporate Development and Kathy Haynes, Regional VP of Publishing Sales, Sappi North America.
Paper use began its decline in 2007 and has continued to drop annually since then. This has resulted in consolidation of the paper manufacturing industry, with resulting tightter supplies and firmer prices.

The biggest cost drivers for direct mailers and catalogers isn’t paper and printing costs, but postage. The presenters showed how paper and printing account for 40% of cost, with postage taking 60%.
