NPI Bought By Duravant; Trailblazer Henry Daboub Helped Revolutionize Mail Sorting

DOWNERS GROVE, IL – Duravant, a global engineered equipment and automation solutions provider, has acquired National Presort (“NPI”), a leading manufacturer of automated mail and parcel sortation systems headquartered in Fort Worth, TX.

For over 45 years, NPI has served e-commerce, courier, parcel post, warehouse and fulfillment operations with advanced turnkey equipment solutions designed to increase throughput, improve accuracy, and reduce fulfillment time.

“We are excited to welcome NPI to Duravant,” said Mike Kachmer, Chairman and CEO of Duravant. “The addition of their unique sortation technology to our material handling portfolio complements our strong position in e-commerce and distribution centers and greatly extends our reach with parcel and courier customers.”

NPI manufactures high speed sortation systems that are modular and configured to customers’ specific application needs. Their highly differentiated sorting equipment features a sliding shoe and slat design and is engineered to gently and precisely sort flats, poly bags, boxes, irregularly shaped parcels and mixed mail at speeds of up to 24,000 pieces per hour. NPI’s software and service offerings further optimize productivity of the entire fulfillment line.

“NPI has experienced tremendous growth, and now our partnership with Duravant greatly enhances our ability to deliver even more value-added solutions to our expanding customer base,” said Brent Daboub, President of NPI. “We’re excited to leverage new resources available to us and collaborate with our colleagues at FMH Conveyors and other Duravant operating companies.”

Henry Daboub Begins NPI in 1977

Henry Deboub was working as an electro-optics engineer at ElectroCom (which later became part of Siemens and now is part of Korber). While designing barcode readers and optical character readers for the U.S. Postal Service, he met two postal engineers who informed him the Post Office was giving mailers a discount for sorting their mail by ZIP code.

“We decided to start a company to provide automated mail-sorting services to mailers and share the postal discount. In September 1977, I resigned my position at ElectroCom and incorporated NPI. We then began designing and building a high-speed letter sorting machine,” Daboub said in an interview with the National Postal Museum.

Henry’s son Brent, who joined NPI after graduating from college in 1994, today serves as the company’s President. As of 2019, NPI has built and deployed more than 1,200 machines with a combined sorting capacity in the hundreds of millions of pieces per day.

NPI has two manufacturing sites in the US and a nationwide fleet of service technicians. NPI’s end-to-end capabilities begin with a consultative approach to designing integrated systems and continue through installation and lifetime aftermarket support.
